We know it's a big ask, and we mean it when we say we're so glad you're considering making the trip. You'll fly into Cluj-Napoca, where we live, and we'll take it from there. A few days exploring the city together, a group dinner, and then on Thursday, a bus north to MaramureÈ™ for the wedding.
Romanian weddings are loud, warm, and full of food — exactly the kind of night we want to share with you.
Monday July 5th-Monday July 12th
The Week

The week is loose by design. There are a few things we're doing together and plenty of room in between to wander, find a café you like, or just explore the city's roman ruins and vampires at your own pace. We'll be around the whole time — this isn't a wedding where you see us for four hours across a reception hall and then say goodbye.

Come as early in the week as you can. The only fixed point is Thursday morning, when we all get on the private bus together.
Chain of events
1 / Monday July 5th --- Arrive in Cluj-Napoca
Get here, get settled, find your bearings. We'll be at the airport to meet you when you land. No agenda tonight beyond relaxing after your travel day.
2 / Tuesday July 6th -- The City
We'll take you around Cluj — the old town, the places we actually go, the spots that don't make it into travel guides. It's a city that rewards slowing down, and we're genuinely excited to show it off to you.
3 / Wednesday July 7th -- Dinner together
The whole group, somewhere with real Romanian food. One of those long, unhurried evenings that always ends up being everyone's favorite part of the trip.
4 / Thursday July 8th -- North to MaramureÈ™
We board the private bus together and head north to Tudor's home county (read more about it here.) This is the one day you truly cannot miss — the bus leaves in the morning and we don't want to leave you behind! Your accomidation for the night before the wedding and the night after is on site and on us.
5 / Friday July 9th -- The wedding
Hanul Teilor, Dănești, Maramureș. Come ready to eat (five courses), drink (unlimited wine), dance, and take in the fresh air of the Romanian countryside. The wedding is outdoor from 2pm-11pm.
6/ Saturday July 10th -- Morning brunch & travel back
We will enjoy a brunch together in the garden before boarding the bus back to Cluj.
7 / Sunday the 11th and Monday the 12th
A few more days in Cluj before everyone heads home. There's still plenty of city left to explore.
About
The Wedding
The celebration is at Hanul Teilor in Dănești, Maramureș. We will travel here together, by private bus. And Audrey will make everyone do a sing along. Just kidding.

You will be staying on site the day before and the day of the celebration. This is on us.

Romanian weddings are their own thing entirely, and we want you to know what you're walking into — in the best possible way. They're longer than American weddings, there will be traditional music, dancing, and food that keeps arriving long after you think it's done.

The event is outdoors (weather permitting). Cocktail-Formal attire is the right range.

About Cluj
Cluj is where we live, and it's where you'll spend most of the week. It's Romania's second largest city, around half a million people, about 100,000 of whom are students — which gives it a young, busy energy.
The architecture in the center is Austro-Hungarian, because for most of its history Cluj wasn't Romanian at all — the city signs still show three names: Cluj in Romanian, Kolozsvár in Hungarian, and Klausenburg in German.

It's also become one of the fastest growing cities economically in the EU over the last two decades, which means it has a thriving restaurant and café scene alongside the ancient streets.

Just outside the city is the Hoia-Baciu Forest, considered one of the most paranormal places on the planet, with decades of reported UFO sightings and unexplained disappearances. We probably won't take you there.
About MaramureÈ™
MaramureÈ™ is about 150km north of Cluj, tucked behind the Carpathian mountains in the far north of Romania. This is where Tudor grew up. Because it's so geographically remote, it was harder for outside forces to reach and control over the centuries, which meant that when communist Romania was collectivizing farms and dismantling village life in much of the country, MaramureÈ™ was partially spared just by virtue of being difficult to get to.
The traditions, the architecture, the way people dress for celebrations... a lot of that survived because the region was isolated enough to slip through the cracks.

Where Cluj is a city, busy, young, full of cafés and people — MaramureÈ™ is the opposite.
Mountains covering more than half the region, heavy forests, rivers running through valleys.

Getting Here
Flying in
Fly into Cluj-Napoca International Airport, airport code CLJ. This is important — do not fly into Bucharest (OTP or BBU) if you can avoid it. Bucharest is a 7-hour drive from Cluj and on the wrong side of the country entirely. When flying from Ohio the route is typically operated by United/Lufthansa, and you will fly in through a German hub, and then into Cluj.

From the airport
The airport is about 8km from the city center. Once you know your arrival time we will make sure to be at the airport to pick you up and help you get to your place of stay.

Currency
Romania uses the Romanian Leu (RON), not the Euro. Cards are accepted almost everywhere in Cluj. There are ATMs throughout the city that will dispense Leu directly from your US card if you prefer to use cash.

Hotels in Cluj
Our guests have a discount at the following hotels. All of them are located in the city center, walking distance to everything.
For any questions not answered here please text Audrey (614-404-5876) or Aaron (614-354-1388)
Do I need a visa? No. US citizens can visit Romania for up to 90 days without a visa. Just your passport.
How different is the food? Traditional Romanian food makes me (Audrey) think of what Hobbits probably eat in Lord of the Rings. Hearty and fresh. Bread, soups, grilled vegetables, and an abundance of good dairy. But we will be eating all kinds of food. Cluj has a lively restaurant scene with plenty of diverse options. The wedding food at Hanul Teilor will be a hybrid of traditional MaramureÈ™ cooking and modern cuisine. If you have any dietary restrictions please let us know when you RSVP so we can tell the wedding venue.
Do I need to speak Romanian? Not at all. English is widely spoken in Cluj, particularly in restaurants, hotels, and among younger people.
Is Romania safe? Yes. Romania is a welcoming and safe country, and Cluj is a young, cosmopolitan university city. Normal travel awareness applies — keep an eye on your things in crowded areas as you would anywhere in Europe. We'll also be with you most of the time. Your biggest threat is Mary.
What should I pack? July in Romania is warm but not overwhelming — expect highs around 26–30°C (79–86°F) in Cluj, slightly cooler in Maramureș. Evenings can be comfortable to cool, especially in the north. Pack layers, good walking shoes for the city, and something nice for the wedding.
Do I have to come for these exact dates ? No, come for as much or as little as you can. The only date that matters is Thursday morning, when we all get on the bus together to MaramureÈ™. As long as you're in Cluj by then, you're good.
